Newom Oy continues the over 40-year legacy of Onkilahden Metalli Oy.

History

Onkilahden Metalli Oy was founded in 1984 by Rauno Rimpilä, Pauli Hakala, and Bosse Nordling in Vaasa, Palosaari, on the shores of Onkilahden. The company started with piping manufacturing for Wärtsilä. By 1988, the company employed 5 people. In 1990, production of units for export began, with 10 employees. The company grew through material deliveries for power plants and large piping modules.

Production of stainless steel components started in 2007, including distribution manifolds, piping, and heat exchanger units. Operations continued to develop, increasing the volumes of units, tanks, and piping systems. 99% of our products are exported through our customers. By then, the company employed 25 people.

In 1990, operations moved to the Lintuvuori industrial area. Facility expansions were carried out in 1993, 1995, 1996, and 2017, bringing the total facility area to 3,500 m². Following the corporate split, Onkilahden Metalli Oy’s operations continue under Newom Oy as of January 1, 2026, and a real estate company, KOy Mustasaaren Hallitie, was established for the property.

Why did Onkilahden Metalli Oy split? Ownership arrangements for shareholders transitioning into retirement.

Onkilahden Metalli has four individual shareholders, two of whom are of retirement age. As the company’s balance sheet includes real estate, determining the company’s value is somewhat challenging.

Onkilahden Metalli Oy decided to proceed with a demerger in June 2025. The split process took six months.

Outcome:

The business operations were transferred to Newom Oy on January 1, 2026. A separate real estate company, KOy Mustasaaren Hallitie, was established on January 1, 2026.

In Newom Oy, the ownership was reorganized as follows: a long-term shareholder retired, and the new CEO, Veli-Jussi Koskela, acquired his shares.
